About Mayofascial Release

John F Barnes Myofascial Release is a type of holistic body work. Holistic refers to treating the entire body, not just the bothersome area.

Holistic also refers to the connection of the body, mind and spirit. JFB Myofascial Release treats the fascia, which is connective tissue that permeates every cell of our body. Our prior and incorrect understanding of this tissue was based on cadavers.

We now know that in living beings this tissue is dynamic, and resides in and contains fluid when it is healthy. Injury, trauma, and repetitive motions will cause this tissue to lose fluidity and can create restrictions. Because fascia is a web, when there is restriction in one area it can cause pain and dysfunction in another area.

Unlike other types of body work, John F. Barnes Myofascial Release does not work to "break-up"  tissue.

Instead, a highly trained practitioner works with you to give this tissue the time and opportunity to  re-establish tissue fluidity and mobility so you can return to doing the things that you love.

This is done in a way that does not force, and so while your body is shifting and changing, your nervous system has the profound experience of your boundaries being felt and respected.  This can be vital in healing from past traumas where boundaries were not respected.
